Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.20% of the population. There were 38,444 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.0% were married couples living together, 25.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% were non-families. 31.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. Just when you thought it was safe to write off Atlanta hip-hop, along comes rapper Stan “Steam” Smith.
Smith, a New York native signed to Tokyo Dawn Records who snagged a 12-inch version of “Rapper’s Delight” when it was released in 1979, is being billed as “the oldest new jack to the longest running fad.”
But while this cat is not a fresh-faced youngster, the music on his debut album The Get Up Movement — created with the direction of Atlanta-based production wizard Daz-I-Kue and the German duo Soulparlor, among others — is truly funky fresh, mixing old-school MCing with broken beat, soul, bass and more.…
